After traveling more than 70 hours two American pastors arrived at a fishing village that was wiped out by the tsunami. What would they find? What would they hear? Was the tsunami aid reaching their beach? They were first greeted by these faces.

They found hundreds of gentle, humble, fishermen just trying to cope with rebuilding their meager lifestyle.

They had no way to provide food for themselves. These men joined with local pastors to deliver rice that was distributed freely. The people were patient and loving.

After they received the rice these men toured the boats that were damaged and then shared the good news of Jesus with them.

When asked if they wanted to put their faith in Jesus, they replied in all sincerity - "when the tsunami hit we immediately believed in Jesus".

Please come visit and share the word of God with us.

We are covering large areas of rural villages in our mission travels. Our first week is not quite over and we are astounded at the fruit. We have visited more than 20 churches and had a church service in each one. We have led more than 200 people to Jesus throughout these church visits. A number of these conversions have been one person at a time during a home visit and it seems each church has between 2 and 15 people come forward. The family of God making up the three percent is growing.

The “Three Percent” is growing

South India is a society where the predominant religion is Hindu. Only three percent are counted to be Christians. The government leaders are Hindu and in fact have temples inside their government buildings. Throughout the city streets and along their rivers they have large and small idols housed in varying sizes of structures. The statues are literally everywhere. They are generally very elaborate. An idol maker can have a steady living.

On our first day we visited a leper colony. We just aren’t sure if that was a dream or if it was real. Our American way of thinking has concluded that leprosy is just an old bible story.

We reached the ocean where a village was wiped out by the tsunami and have prepared a separate report on that.

There is much poverty and need within the lowest class of downtrodden peoples. These are generally the Christians. The downtrodden caste of people readily embrace Christianity. The environmental health of this place is enough to make you faint and we do see many medical problems. Pastor Ernie and I have prayed individually for at least 1000 people so far.

This mission field is as ripe as one can be. The people are ready to hear about Jesus. They are the warmest, most hospitable people you will encounter. We are excited to see what adventure will be around the next corner.

Grace and peace to you,
Pastor Mark
